CROCHET 101

Abstract

Crochet 101 aims to introduce crochet as a therapeutic and community-building art form, transcending its traditional perception as a craft primarily for creating physical artifacts. With research highlighting the various health benefits of crochet, this workshop seeks to explore the stress-relieving qualities and cognitive enhancements of crocheting. By employing beginner-level crochet techniques, primarily granny squares, participants will engage in a journey of self-discovery and relaxation. The project fosters inclusivity by targeting a diverse audience, welcoming both novices and experienced crocheters seeking creative outlets and stress alleviation.

Through a communal endeavor to craft a collaborative blanket, this project highlights the significance of collective effort and interconnectedness, emphasizing the rewards of crochet beyond individual creation. The workshop's methodology combines interactive activities, individual projects, and exposure to established crochet communities, enabling participants to experience the therapeutic benefits firsthand while embracing a sense of belonging within a supportive network. Ultimately, this initiative seeks to empower individuals by harnessing the meditative aspects of crochet and fostering lasting connections within an inclusive community.
